Hey guys, I just REALLY needed to get that old December 2011 journal page off; the holiday theme was too silly to still have up in June of the next year, haha! So here's a sunny summer theme for now!

Anyways, in a week, I'll be going to the anime convention in AM2, helping out at 4th Dimension Entertainment's booth. Please come and see us in Anaheim if you're there!
:iconteam4d:
Lots of stuff has happened since last post. I took SCUBA diving lessons (a bit of a challenge for someone uncomfortable in water) and falconry lessons. Both were AMAZING. It was very educational and great, great fun! I have a lot more confidence in water and I learned so much in both fields.

I also got a Facebook in the past few months. So now I am also entrapped. Haha, jk, it's not so bad. I really like the "timeline" aspect of it (which I feel is a rip-off of tumblr, really) because it's great for posting lots of pictures and quickies! And I like the map feature too, though they need to work out some bugs in the counting of locations.
:iconfblike:
I also tabled at WonderCon in March and in Fanime last month for 4DE as well. Thanks to everyone who came to support us! We'll also be at AX, Comic-Con, APE and CTN. ;) Oh, and I also got to ride a double-decker train for the first time! It was cool, except the food was all of the shrinkwrapped-and-microwavable kind.

Well, that's it for now! Take care and have a lovely summer!

:iconturkeylaplz: So, I'm all turkey'ed and cranberried out. And I'm too old to get Christmas gifts really.  :iconreindeerla:

:iconchristmasla: Still, lookin' forward to more holiday festivties! Lights, events, parties, food, presents... :iconcookielaplz:

I put my my own decorations and have gotten my shopping or gift making underway. And have gone and seen all... what, three winter holiday themed movies out in theaters? Arthur Christmas, Harold and Kumar, and Happy Feet 2? They were great and all, but wow, I mean, I got those done with in like mid to late November.

:iconsantalaplz: Anyways, happy holidays to everyone out there! Keep on deviating!  :iconsnowmanlaplz:

Hey you guys, I may be away from dA for quite a while to go to CTNX in Burbank since it's like an EIGHT HOUR drive away from where I live. Don't worry, I'll get back to replying and commenting and giving you guys llamas when I can! : )

:iconllamatruckplz: (Not looking forward to the long drive... Or all the three days of tabling, for that matter...) :iconsadcplz:

Anyways, it's the third year of CTNX, I believe. Even though it's so young, the convention is pretty nice. It is different from a lot of others I have been to though, I suppose since it is a more industry-related convention rather than a fan-based one. Many of the people who attend are art school students or artists looking for working or getting critiques on their portfolios or meeting famous animators and stuff.

:iconfacepalmemoteplz: Too bad I'm not all up on my artist or movie trivia- I wouldn't even know it if a famous dude came up to me, unless someone told me, haha.

Anyways, come check it out if you live around Southern California! It's a worthwhile experience, at least once. Tons of big movie studios and stuff are there. The convention staff even gave all the vendors a glass of champagne to end the convention with a toast last time! But oh man, don't go around drinking all your friends' glasses who didn't want 'em. That was too much. DX

Drink your own champagne only!! :icontwofacepalmemoteplz:

:iconjelloplz: Meanwhile... *hopes for delicious holiday food soon!*

:iconsadnod:Hey guys, sorry, I know I've really slowed down in my dA work. Just been so busy as of late with a variety of things. Haven't gotten the time even to do any of the Halloween contests I've been keeping an eye on in dA. ;__ ;

The orb weaver I have a photo of in my gallery, "Sigourney Weaver," laid an egg sac, hanging from a ceiling of webbing. So have the mantids. It's just that time of year where little critters lay their eggs, the parents die and life starts to begin anew.

Last Sunday, I volunteered all day at a local park's nature festival, tabling for 7 or so hours, talking to kids and parents about various California wildlife, including scorpions, vinegaroons (a COOL arachnid that releases vinegar as a defense mechanism), water beetles, mantids, spiders and some amphibians. I love to be involved in the community around me and reach out in casual scientific education. I used to volunteer regularly, in fact, as a homework tutor and as a helper at a kid's science museum. The nature fest was a great success and it was a good day.

:icondummydanceplz:Hurrah for community service, teaching kids about bugs! :iconforscience:

Started the sequel to Hotel Dusk, The Last Window: Secret of Cape West last week. It started out feeling kinda off, but it got good in a couple of hours. Really into the plot. It was funny one night when the main character happened to choose the same thing for dinner that I had just had myself hours before! : )
:iconladanceplz:Yay for interesting story and characters in a great game!

Been pretty darn disappointed by the horror movie line up this year. Insidious was GREAT- excellent movie, and Final Destination 5 was cute enough, and I guess the new Thing was okaaay. But everything has been well, crap to mediocre. From Roommate and The Rite this January to stuff like Shark Night, Creature, Apollo 18 and Paranormal Activity 3- just UGH. It was really annoying too, to hear that PA3 hit record breaking sales for the horror movie genre, when it was so bland and brought almost nothing new or memorable to the table (one or two good scenes doesn't cut it for me).
:iconnoesglomp:Feelings about horror flicks this year: Smash face into wall UGH.

Still, I've always been the spirited holiday person, and have been greatly looking forward to Halloweenie things. To my great delight, I actually have been able to see a variety of haunted show attractions throughout Northern California! Starting with Fright Planet in Sacramento's very own Cal Expo!
It was really great- four nice haunted houses in a large decorated venue (an amusement park that had previously been a mini golf courses with boat and mini train rides) with lots of actors that were really into it and interacted with the audience. It will be expanding a lot next year too, which suggests that it's done well this year, which is wonderful and I am really excited to see how it improves!
Also saw another fairly local one, in Roseville. Since it was on a fairgrounds, they had plenty of space to work with, but it was a bit small and shoddily set up, especially for such a wealthy area, I felt.
From looking up Northern CA haunts, we found the ones in San Leandro (Fear Overload) and Pleasanton (Pirates of Emerson) to be amongst the highest rated in CA. Fear Overload was okay- nothing to write home about, but the Pirates venue really blew me away. It was even BIGGER than the haunts at Cal Expo, and even more finely furnished and decorated! You could see the extra time and money poured into it- lovely! And Rancho Cordova's Hagan Ranch Screampark I saw today was really excellent- the best animatronics and high quality props I've seen yet!

:iconpumpkinplz: :iconboooplz:Happy Halloween, everyone! Fun times to all! :iconzombielaplz:

Meanwhile, I am also starting up a regular homework tutoring service with neighboring kids. I'm really nervous 'cause I'm a nervous kind of person and always worried about anything that could possibly go wrong. I figure everything should work out fine though. It'll be a good activity for me I think. Haven't worked with kids like this in a long time. Not since college, and I graduated years ago.

Got to see a lot of familiar faces last night at an entomology dinner meet-up- undergrads, graduates, professors and others. My old forensics prof got me all tipsy from the wine as per usual at the ent dinners. It was fun chatting and we even had home-made GIANT mosquito pinatas with candy inside!
This weekend, I'm hoping to see the big annual Sacramento herp show and perhaps go to another entomology dinner gathering.
:iconcookienomplz:Food and friends and crawlies, good.

The last two weeks of October are often such busy ones. It's just kind of the times that everyone wants to do everything! I suppose it's natural since it's going to start to become winter soon, and people are just trying to get all the fun tidings out of their system for a while, haha.

Unfortunately, aside from having to deal with stupid stuff like the dumb post office CANCELING MY MAIL TO MY APARTMENT apparently for the past TWO MONTHS, and various house chores, I've also had a bout of severe insomnia for the past week or two. Even if I've been awake all night and morning and know I'm tired, I cannot for the life of me, fall asleep. Or even if I do, if I wake up from something, I can't get back to sleep. It's pretty frustrating.

:iconballooonplz:Girls just want to have fun! Haha, j/k. But for seriously. My MAIL!?

Anyways, here's to the changing seasons and lots and lots of holiday snacks and food!
:iconfatlaplz:Feed me, plz.

Hi everybody! Haven't written a new journal page in a while. Nothing of great interest has really happened to me lately, I suppose, besides seeing a bunch of (mostly bad-to-mediocre movies) and eating some tasty foods and food-like products, including an aged brie that "smelled like an impacted turd," as one might say, and has said, to my great and thorough disgust.
By the way, I hate Ponies. I despise them and their cutesy-wutesy faces and high-pitched voices and bright fluffy kingdom and everything, but :iconteam4d: likes them for some reason, so I thought it might be appropriate to decorate the contest with this sickeningly, eye-gougingly Pony-riffic border.

Llamas, anyone?? : )
:iconllamasniffplz: :iconllamasniff2plz: :iconllamasniff3plz::iconllamasniffplz:

ANYWAYS, the CONTEST.
:iconpumpkinplz: :iconboooplz:
Yes, the contest sounds all well and good and fun for the whole family and all ages, everybody alike! There will be a number ONE, a number TWO-hoo, and a THREEeee places for winners in the contest. You can win stuff ($25 worth), more stuff ($50 worth), or even MORE stuff ($100 worth) that is related to 4th Dimension Entertainment titles.

I want to see lots of contest entries. Please make some. I looove jack-o-lanterns. And I love appreciating and enjoying jack-o-lantern art more than I like making it. I mean, all that sawing and cutting and ripping out of the gooey pumpkin gut innards *slobber* ...
Anyways yeah, you'll have fun making them, everyone will have fun looking at them, some people will win stuff, AND like, jack-o-lanterns are SUPER cute when lit up at night AND they're bio-degradeable! Everyone wins!
